Air Chathams Metroliners at Auckland International 26-9-2018

Taken from the bus on my way to catching my flight down to Wellington:

A trio of Air Chathams Metroliners with ZK-POE on the centre, the others being ZK-POF and ZK-CIC2.  It is hard to see the registration letters of ZK-POE as they are in gold where the light reflects off the rear fuselage.  It is still registered so maybe we will see it flying again.

Passing through Rangiora on 24-09-2018 I captured the De Havilland DH82A Tiger Moth ZK-AON (c/n DHNZ80) of Bill Lamb of Taradale.
Being flown on this occasion by Amanda Rutland.
Further up the Coast at Kaikoura the Cessna 172M ZK-JCT (c/n 17262504) of the Kaikoura Aero Club (Inc) was parked outside the 'Clubs' new hangar.

The two Gippsland GA8 Airvans of South Pacific Helicopters (2016) Ltd - normally Kaikoura based were caught at Omaka. Above is their latest arrival ZK-FSR2 (GA8-06-099).
Below is ZK-KBZ (c/n GA8-03-024) receiving some serious attention.
Both have been mentioned previously on these pages.

The Vintage Aviator Pilots Flying Day at Masterton 29-9-2018

When you are in Wellington on the last weekend of the month from September, a trip over to the Wairarapa is well worthwhile if the weather is good and the wind is not too strong.

Such was the case on 29 September when I was able to travel to Masterton to see what The Vintage Aviator wheeled out for their pilot's flying day.  These events are not open to the public but you can visit the SVAS cafe and see the aircraft over the fence - great if you have a telephoto lens.  I counted around a dozen of TVAL's amazing WW 1 aircraft out in the sun, with 6 of them flying during the afternoon.

The Vintage Aviator RE 8-1 reproduction ZK-REK.

Fokker Dr-1 Triplane replica ZK-JOK.

Addems-Pfieffer Nieuport 11 replica ZK-NIM.

The Vintage Aviator SE-5A-1 reproduction ZK-SEO.

Fokker D VII replica ZK-FOD2.

and Fokker D VIII replica ZK-FEV2.

which has a very distinctive end on silhouette.

The pie run continues with a look at some of the aircraft I noted at Omaka
Cessna 180 ZK-BSP (c/n 31263) taxied  from its hangar around to JEM Aviation.
It was listed with its current owner Andrew Meighan of Blenheim in October of 2017.
The Canadian built De Havilland DH83C Fox Moth ZK-APT (c/n FM48) changed ownership on 11-09-2018 from Stan Smith to PMH Aviation Ltd at Omaka.
The Team Hi-Max ZK-CBO2 ( c//n 365) was sold by Graeme Main of Rangiora to Kim Saunders-Singer of Picton during June this year and was noted in the Marlborough Aero Club hangar.
It wears no registration marks and I suspect it has not flown since its move north from Rangiora.
There were plans to have this registered as ZK-TEA - for TEAm - but this registration was already allocated.
Departing Omaka was the GCH Aviation's Kawasaki BK117-B2 ZK-HGW4 (c/n 1050) which has been with them - ex Helilink - since late March this year.
It had served previously as ZK-HCB.

The Douglas DC3C-S13G ZK-JGB2 (c/n 4363) of Airscapades Affairs Ltd is still being worked on.
This has been mentioned several time previously Here.
The lovely little Piper PA-22/20 Pacer ZK-COX2 (c/n 22-3936) resides in the 'Club' hangar along with its close cousin ZK-BLA.
One we haven't listed previously is the Micro Aviation B22 Bantam ZK-FTJ (c/n 0083) belonging to local Club instructor Vince Gardner.

As well as The Vintage Aviator machines, there were also several other interesting aircraft around Hood Aerodrome.  I really enjoy hanging around an airfield for a good chunk of time on a nice day as usually something interesting shows up.  And so it was at Masterton last Saturday:

Craig Stobbs pushed his spectacular Glasair III ZK-UAE (c/n 25-4749) out for a photo in the sun.  Craig told me that he built quite a bit of his Glasair in Dubai when he was flying for Emirates, hence the registration.  Craig also told me he follows the blog, so Hi Craig!

Craig has also recently rebuilt Piper PA 25-235 Pawnee ZK-SUG and finished it in this nice colour scheme.  It was employed towing gliders during the afternoon.

Glasflugel H 201B Standard Libelle ZK-GHF has been around the New Zealand soaring scene since December 1970!

while Schempp-Hirth Discus-2cT ZK-GXM is a much more modern glider having been first registered in December 2006.

The local Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club's Tecnam P 2002JF Sierra ZK-WRA was out doing circuits.

Sky Sports (NZ) Ltd's Cessna 185A ZK-CBY was also doing familiarisation circuits.  It is usually used for parachute dropping.  It has been around since 1962!

Also from the 60s is Bill Dittmer's Gardan Minicab ZK-CXB.

Later in the afternoon Josh Flynn had his EAA Acrosport II ZK-FLY2 out of its hangar.

The local Super Air Cresco is ZK-JOF while ZK-LTQ is hangared in the SVAS hangar.

And Andrew Cuttance popped in for a while in the Rural Aerial Co-operative's Air Tractor AT-402B ZK-JHG.

HIP/HOP revisited

Helisika Helicopters have recently acquired a second Eurocopter AS350 Squirrel to join ZK-HOP and have registered the "new" addition ZK-HIP. These markings were most recently worn by a Hughes 369FF also operated by Helisika but exported to the USA in recent months.

The new ZK-HIP has been in the country since 2012 and was registered ZK-IJO with Faram Helicopters.

The three registrations above have all featured numerous times on the blog. Simply enter the registration in the "search the blog" box at the top right of the blog's front page.

I have spent the last few days lurking about in the Motueka area and have managed to get these pics.
At Argus Aviation I found the Bell 206B JetRanger ZK-HWM (c/n 819) of Coast to Coast Helicopters Tasman Ltd.
The De Havilland DHC-2 Beaver Mk1 ZK-SBV is c/n 763 is now listed to Zodie Investments Ltd of Karamea. It has been on the register since 05-06-2018.
Check out the earlier posts on this HERE.
And way for a quick test flight is the McDonnell Douglas 500N NOTAR ZK-IML (c/n LN077) of Wyndon Aviation Ltd since 08-02-2018.
On the other side of the field:-
Just one of a heap of Cessna's from the Nelson Aviation College based at Motueka was the 172S Skyhawk SP ZK-NAB3 (c/n 172S8220). It has been on line since 27-06-2011.
No visit to Motueka would be complete without another shot of the Pilatus PC-6 B2-H4 Turbo Porter ZK-XIT (c/n 653) from Skydive Able Tasman Ltd.
This was first registered in NZ on 14-03-2006.
This has been mentioned many time previously Here.

A fine spring day brought a number of interesting visitors to the Pauanui airfield including the Aztec ZK-DGT up from Tauranga.   Visits from twins are not that common to the airfield.

From further airfield came the Foxcon Terrier ZK-NRS visiting from Whakatane

And a Beech A36 not often seen is the Auckland based ZK-VRR which did a number of touch and goes in the morning

On a trip down to Hawkes Bay over the weekend the only aircraft I was able to photo was Skyline Aviation's new Cessna 680 Sovereign ZK-RXD outside their hangar at Napier.

ZK-RXD (c/n 680-0250) was first registered here on 22/5/18 and is ex VH-VPL/N680JG/N52315.  It has not been posted on the blog previously.

A Couple from Wellington on 28-9-2018

A quick trip to Wellington International a couple of weeks ago produced a couple of out of town visitors:

Piper PA 31 Navajo ZK-LTD (c/n 31-73009180) is registered to Avia Air Charter Ltd of Hamilton.  It was ex VH-JKC and has been registered in New Zealand on 28/4/93.  It is now onto its sixth owner and I do not think it has been posted on the blog previously (but it is not much use searching under LTD!).

In the background is the new Wellington leaning control tower which is now operational.

And outside the Life Flight hangar the Hawkes Bay Kawasaki BK-117-2 Rescue Helicopter ZK-IBK2 (c/n 1053) departed.  It is sponsored by the Lowe Corporation and is operated by Skyline Aviation Ltd of Napier.  The registration is partly obscured by the winch.

Arriving this afternoon at its new home in Pauanui was Just Highlander VH-JPU which has been imported into NZ by Peter Hicks, together with his RV7 VH-JPD.

Peter and his wife have emigrated to NZ and the aircraft were shipped over and assembled by Solo Wings at Tauranga.     The RV7 will fly to Pauanui when assembly is completed.

Another International NZ Connection - ZK-AGM

David Wise has sent a couple of photos of the lovely DH 83 Fox Moth marked as ZK-AGM (c/n TS2810) taken at the LAA Rally at Sywell on 31/8/18.

Actually, I did not realise that the New Zealand registration is a UK CAA Registration Mark Exemption scheme and the aircraft is actually registered as G-CIPJ (although this has been mentioned on the blog previously).

The aircraft is a long term rebuild of the original ZK-AGM which crashed near Wanaka in April 1963 and was itself a rebuild using parts of Fox Moth ZK-ADH with a new fuselage.

Previous posts on this aircraft can be found HERE (detailing its complete history), and HERE.

Thanks for the photos David.
